Lovers Lab doesn't work

Hello!

Today I encoutered this issue again - I try to open LL and I get 503 error (on white background). I tried to use anonymizer and I managed to log in but when I went to PM I got LL "Site under maintenance" page. (without logging in I could access downloads page and download a mod).

How can I prevent this issue in the future?

It has happened to me as well today. Sometimes it happens and it soon returns back and functions. I just had to wait for about 15 minutes.

If there is an issue with the server I doubt there is much that can be done to get access if there isn't any access to be gotten.

I got it for a couple of hours I belive (I went to sleep for a few hours, woke up and I still got the same error). Then for 1-2 minutes it stopped, I managed to write PM and I got error again. Now LL works fine.

I also tried to use DNS Flusher for firefox - didn't work. For another user site worked fine.

We've discussed this before but it looks like nobody cared.

Sometimes the IP address for LL gets changed and some DNS servers are slow to update and they give you the old IP. When you access the old IP it gives you a 503 error. When this happens you can either switch to another DNS server that gives you the new IP, or you can manually add the new IP to your "hosts" file until your DNS server gets updated.

When you get a 503 error when trying to access LL, go to the following address and check the availability from worldwide locations, take note of the IP address and see if it's the same as what you get from your DNS server.

Not sure if your problem was happening during the site maintenance or not as earlier today I was in my profile popped over to a different tab and then came back later and all the tabs in the profile were throwing up errors and threw up a site maintenance if I clicked on a forum tab. Checking on the is this site down site showed that it was down. So maybe the problems you were getting were during that time frame.

Thanks, bjornk!

I can't  access this link you give.

What if I can't get another DNS server? My Provider gives them to me automatically.

Are you on Windows?

You don't have to change your DNS server just for LL, but you have to find out what the new IP address is. In order to do that, you may query other DNS servers with nslookup command. Example: "nslookup loverslab.com 8.8.8.8". And then temporarily add the new IP to your hosts file. See below for details.

These are some basic instructions I posted on one of the older threads:

A few tips for people having problems accessing to the site. If you've been getting a 503 error, it means that you connect to the old IP address for LL.

  • Press Win + R
  • Type "cmd" and press ENTER
  • Type "ipconfig /all" to get the list of DNS servers you've been using. (Look for the addresses in the Local Area Connection or Wireless Network Connection sections depending on how you are connected to Internet)
  • Type "nslookup www.loverslab.com <Your DNS Server IP which you've found out above>" for example, "nslookup www.loverslab.com 8.8.8.8" etc.
  • Make sure that you do this for all your DNS server IPs.
It should list two IP addresses instead of one. My DNS server gives me these addressess for LL...

141.101.124.103

108.162.207.103

Again, make sure that you get these addresses for *all* the DNS servers you use. If one of them shows a different address then you'll have problems connecting the site. Remove that server temporarily or replace your DNS servers completely with the ones of Google or OpenDNS.

If you've changed your DNS servers to Google's or OpenDNS make sure that you reset Windows' and your browsers DNS cache. Close and restart your browser.

Also try to connect the site using a different browser which you don't normally use to connect to this site.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

If you don't want to change your DNS servers just for this site then add these lines to your Windows hosts file. In case you have problems connecting the site later on delete these lines from the file.

I recommend that you learn how to diagnose simple network problems like this, as it may happen again in the future.

I also recommend that you bookmark this site. Whenever you have problems accessing LL, go there and check if the site is up or down. Also, check the site's availability from worldwide locations. It'll list the IP addresses used to access LL, compare those IP addresses with the ones you get from *your* DNS servers. If they don't match then find a public DNS server that gives you the IPs you actually need to connect the site.

PS. The IP addresses listed above are no longer valid.

Yes, Windows 7. I use router  by ZyXEL. DNS are set to be received automatically.

EDIT: I saw your edits. I'll try to change DNS to google DNS, thanks!

I thought it was just going through a maintenance. Then when I was able to get on  (about 3pm ish) I saw posts from 1pm and earlier.

Nope. I experienced the same issue this morning. I immediately checked the IP address I got from my DNS server and compared it to the one I got from 8.8.8.8. They were different, as I had expected. Added the new IP to my hosts file and problem solved. I've just removed it from my hosts file though, as my DNS server seems to have been updated.

You don't need to change the DNS configuration on your router, you can change it on Windows.
