Worst Follower EVAH?

60 posts in this topic

Just a fun almost poll to bash all those lovely NPCs that want to follow us around.   Our little quiz / rant session should be limited to "vanilla" characters included in Skyrim or the DLCs also.  If we included the ton of poorly made followers on the Nexus and elsewhere the list would never end.

My vote, without a doubt, hands down goes to

FARKAS!!!

He's got to be the most annoying assclown in the history of followers.   If he wasn't riding my ass like a sexlab animation and pushing me into mobs of bad guys, he was aggro'ing half the dungeon at once with a suicide charge.   On top of that, he's ugly and has lousy dialogue.

Serana comes in a close second with her own death or glory charges and reanimating everything in site, but at least she looks decent and has a good storyline.

All of them. I have not, nor will I ever use any companion. Ever. Unless I really have too, like for a quest or similar.

Worst of all: Lydia "Fuck Grammar" and Serana "Where did you come from?".

Also worst of all: Every humanoid follower with their constant idiotic and repetititve drivel. Every animaloid follower triggering every single trap in a dungeon and brutally murdering the concept of stealth.

TWO notable exceptions: Merhart the Werewolf and Dagger the Sabrecat.

Barbas, makes getting one of the worst two handed weapons in the Game a worthy reward.

Err gosh, I like all the followers. I guess Uthgerd would be my worst since I used her before finding things like AFT and she would get me killed by traps constantly.

There are so many, so I'll just say all of them.

All of them are total dicks. The fact that I have to use 4 or 5 mods just to stop them from being utter morons irks me far more than it does other aspects of this game.  That's 4 or 5 esps I could spend on things that elevate my gaming experience rather than just normalising it.

In all the years I've been playing Skyrim I think I've had a follower in tow for no more than 3 or 4 levels. They all end up the same way, wating for me to make a rare appearance at my home so they can suddenly start following whatever dumb ai packages  they've been assigned. Which is kind of spooky when you put it that way.

Fuck them all. Literally if you must, but just keep them out of my line of sight.

I don't know if it's really fair to single out any of the vanilla followers as "worst" because of problems like crappy AI and repetitive dialogue because they ALL have those issues. Personally I don't ever really use followers for the above reasons and also because I feel that most of them don't add anything of value to my experience while playing the game. If I had to choose a "worst" though, I guess I would go with any of the hirelings because they're the least interesting.

Lydia, she once activated a trap, I heard a click and the next thing I see is a batteringram smashing my face.

Uthgerd the bear-faced is second worst, I always used her like: win 100g with the brawl, ask her to follow you, leave Whiterun and murder her for her gear(fastest way to get steel plate armor).

Got to agree with those who said all the vanilla followers are complete garbage. Worst of the bunch? Serana & any of the Companions...

At least some mod followers are decent...like only one: Selene Kate. At least you could modify her behavior through the MCM. I wonder if there is a mod that would allow you to edit the behaviors of the vanilla followers the same way, while in game through the MCM? No more 'death or glory' charges when you're trying to be sneaky & stealthy, then be able to sick them all on a dragon balls out style...wouldn't that be nice?

Yeah, all the followers are a mountain of suck.

Well he is a ghost...  What are they going to do, kill him?  LOL

But seriously yeah, he's right up there with Farkas and Serana

I liked Lucien in Oblivion but his stupid talking ruined him for me in Skyrim. So yes, add him to the list. (Luckily, I found a mod that shuts him up but the damage was done.)

I kinda liked Eola and that's it, the rest are just MEH.

Honorable mention: Golldir. The little bastard gave me a speech about to kill Vals Veran and all he did was to die by the sword of the first Draugr we found. Seriously, fuck him and fuck all his dead ancestors.

I really don't see all this fuss over Serana. She is not all that fun to be with. I rather have her mom, she's hot. I'll be sure the next time I get back on Skyrim  to make a follower mod out of her if there isn't one already.

What made Serana great, was her "personality". She did stuff on her own if there was something around to trigged it, like Workbenches etc etc.

But in the end, it gets old fast, so yeah, I agree, not that special. Just less crappy.

The only thing vanilla followers are worth for is being victims of all those nasty sexlab mods we install. And huskies are cool, they don't talk which make them smarter than their human counterparts.

Yah know...  Come to think of it, I can only think of ONE "follower" that I truly loved...  And even then he wasn't truly a follower; The Morrowind version of Lilarcor.  :D

He / it was the closest to the original Baldur's Gate 2 version, and the sword leveled with you.  All that and acres and acres of annoying "Ohhh, lets go kill that over there" dialogue, lol.

Yep, her sandbox was the only thing that made her unique, but after the whole dawnguard quest, I dismissed her.

Vanilla? All of them, and for all the reasons people already stated. Though if i had to single one out, i would say that Serana is simultaniously the best and worst vanilla follower.

The best because she sandboxes, has a personallity, comments on things we come across, and she actually has some dialog, making her seem more alive than the others (ohh the irony), who just stumble around after you, hardly ever saying a word.

The worst because she can't go 2 seconds without raising something from the dead (and zombies are even worse than regular followers, they won't even sneak), she always bugs out and gets stuck in sneak mode, and of course, she's forced, once you start the Dawnguard questline in earnest, you're stuck with her till you complete it, you can't take a break and go do something else without having her tag along.

That said, there's always mods like EFF which drastically improves followers, IE, they can all sandbox, if you sneak they won't attack anything untill you break out of sneak first, they can be leveled up, and a bunch of other stuff. I can actually stand to play with a follower with that installed.
