Worst Follower EVAH?

60 posts in this topic

For me Jordis the Swordmaiden (Solitude Housecarl) is the worst in terms of pushing you around. It's basically impossible to engage in dialog with anybody if she's tagging along, as she'll nudge me around for several meters in any direction every 7 seconds or so whenever i try.

Jordis.. we need to discuss a little thing called "personal space" <_<

NPC's like Barbas and the like, basically every NPC that gets forced to tag along with you as part of a quest, i don't think really qualifies since they are not actually followers. If you've got something like EFF installed you'll quickly notice that none of it's features work for them, since they are not using normal follower code, they are using a stripped down bare-bones version of it, which is why they all suck.

Lydia and Serana, just "indispensable".

I don't understand the issues with Serana. She's limited by the stupid game AI and share their tendencies of kamikazing themselves and the absolute disregard for traps and the like.

And I agree with the original poster, the worst follower is Farkas, who combines the standard stupid AI with a fantastically poor level design in his entry chapter. Just have the nerve to try his dungeon with a high level character and he will be beaten into submission by every foe at hand. In "Take up Arms" you can even see him magically recover from his bleedout and kill the bandits that were handing him his ass just moments before, thanks to the power of scripting.

Dogs should not have been implemented as followers of any kind. The game simply can't handle them properly within dungeons.

The worst "follower" ever is... Ancano, raised as a dead thrall. Since every encounter with this douchebag made me want to kill him, the moment he dropped dead I stripped him naked and raised him to parade his lifeless corpse all over Skyrim.

Then, I learned he's one of the few characters who retain their voice and some dialogue when raised this way, so I got to listen to his annoying banter over and over again. It was as if the divines themselves chose to punish me for my hubris.

Another vote for Serena. I'd cheerfully choke the dev who thought giving a companion a resurrect spell was a brilliant idea when a good percentage of the DLC takes place in very dark and very close quarters.

Every once in a while I forget and think I'll play through Dawnguard. I start regretting it almost immediately. If only her AI weren't so craptacular she'd actually be a semi-interesting character, but you're forced to drag her through so many huge dungeons and areas [many of which have convoluted pathways] that by the time you're halfway done you just want to slaughter her.

I admit I've saved my game before just so I can whack at her (pointlessly) with a sword to blow off some steam.

Barbas would be a close second, but I always clear the vampire dungeon before I talk to Lod, and also make sure I have a map marker close to the cave you have to go to beforehand - so I'm only ever stuck with him for a very short time.

I heard a good one in regards to how to deal with having to drag Serana along on so many forced quests (she drives me nuts also :( ...) ...make sure you have your Ice Form Shout before you pick her up and hit her with it on regular occasions, keeps her out of your hair :D ...as for Barbas, until I found the Mod that stops his introduction activating I did the same thing, would Map Mark the Vamp Nest before picking him up to make it as fast and painless as possible.

Most of annoyances listed in this topic can be fixed with mods.

Follower Trap Safety

Serana Dialogue Edit - actually should be called "Serana Overhaul". Makes her much more bearable.

Better Stealth AI for Followers

Having said that, I refrain from using followers as much as I can help it. Still, sometimes you need them - like when you're playing a pure spellcaster in Requiem, until you get some really powerful summons, you absolutely need a meat shield (and Lydia is the best one ever, with a proper gear she kicks some real ass). But my most hated follower is Inigo, with all his comments on what I carry, what should we do now, why am I sitting while we should be going (I'm using field enchanting equipment, you idiot! Stop bothering me!), this absolutely childish "we're the best friends" (have you ever asked me?) and that silly quest you have to go through to get his summon spell. It's the Pale, high in the mountains, the middle of the night, I use Frostfall and it's like -50C outside, and I'm being ordered to go outside and find eggs... really?

ROFL, you should have put that on YouTube.

For me: Lydia. I just straight up killed her for her armor the first time I played the game after I realized I didn't like her. Fuck her and fuck your marker!

ulthgerd 'the unbroken' in whiterun - only reason I made her follow me is to feed her to some giants to get some lvl 1 shiny plate... she couldn't even do that properly and they launched her halfway across skyrim

Talk about a treasure hunt...
