As a programmer and programming teacher (as in, I teach the folks who will be making these programs and games in 2-5 years, type teacher), I'm with Kendo 100%.   As he said, let's all take a chill pill and play the actual game before we start going on about how it needs to be fixed.

Planning is good; but no plan, no matter how good, has ever survived contact with reality.

When I get around to buying them game I'm going to play it like I do all new purchase games; play the hell out the main quest vanilla and do some world exploring.  Doing one solid play-through in a vanilla Bethesda game always gives me an idea of what the game really is.  I'll know for myself what can be better and what's fine as is.

My first 'mod' will be a female body replacer If there is a nude female 'astrid' body tucked away somewhere in the BSA's.  If there is  I'll probably make a day-one nude replacer like I did for Skyrim but that will be it.  For sure I won't be installing any of the bullshit from Nexus foisted as 'hi-rez' textures or any of the other stupidity people upload there within one day of the game being released.  They don't know what they're doing and I don't want it in my folders.

The mods I'm really looking forward to are the ones I can't make myself.  A FO4 pipboy PDA type replacer tops my list, then good face and body textures for both sexes, then sexy body mods, then Lover's Lab stuff like Sexlab/Sexout and DeviousDevices.  Really wanna see what the DD team can do in FO4.  :D

For all we know FO4 might suck or it can't be modded like we expect it to be.  Maybe both, but nothing beats that first experince of playing a new game and discovering new things about it and in it.  I think people should focus on that and then worry about modding it.

I remind you that Fore said that he wont be working on F4. So if Bethesda will cockblock animation again we are pretty screwed for some (long) time.

Yeah,  I remember that.  :-/  But I had never heard of Fore before FNIS.  Not making light of his massive contribution to Skyrim modding in the least.  That said, if can he do it then so can someone else.  Who that someone is I don't know.  When key people step back it leaves a vaccum that's hard to fill.

If what I suspect is true, FO4 will be a huge pain in the ass to mod anyway.  The ME3/Witcher style dialogue cut scenes in FO4 will be hell to account for in mods that have dialogue; unless the camera can be auto set with keywords or other hard coded gimmicks.  And if Bethesda uses a primitive character skeleton (they always do) that will make modding bodies a real pain if there is Skyrim style body scaling.

Too many unknowns for me to be really excited about modding FO4.

Just a point of view (and I agree of every single word in your post, Kendo 2) I am the type of person that will have pleasure of make things happen.

So if the anim system (just one of the items that are unknown) will require something new, I will have orgasms in finding a way to understand how we can do animations.

(Probably I will concentrate myself first on the NIFs format and the scripting VMs. That are the things I am more familiar with.)

What no bouncing boobs for over a year!!!!!

BUt realy ... I am looking forward to playing the vanilla version of FO4 .I personally have enjoyed the story lines of fall outs and Elder scrolls ( remember here I started with pong for christmas...) . Yes at times they feel weak and rushed to get them over with but still. I am hoping for some superawetastical shit and when i am burned out . I will pray and thank the LL gods for hopefully just fucking it all up and making boobies bounce! oh and don't forget all you modders the Power armor needs a dildo stabilizer to hold my girls in place!

THIS HAS BEEN A PRERECORDED MESSAGE FROM THE PEANUT GALLERY .

I am also looking forward to playing the game "vanilla". I have the game on preorder. Even if no mods every come about (other than some minor textures etc) I will be satisfied with my purchase. (not for future purchase however.. This is a moddable game dammit. :D).

If someone does create a BSA extractor.. Let me know.. I will extract some of my BSAs.. :D.. Good to get to see the folder structure at least. (don' t know the Nif stuff.). Maybe most of what is there is very similar to Skyrim.. ;).

It is a question of what makes your adrenaline to rush.

I started modding Skyrim after 2 weeks after I bought the game. (Very late to be honest it was mid begin of 2014.)

I bought Mass Effect 3 for $ 4.99, and after 2 days I started modding it.

I got (for free, it was included in my graphic card) Metal Gear Solid, and after mission 10 (about 1 day of playing) I was trying to modding it.

I do not like too much to play games, I like to mod them. Probably I am a minority.

But this is who I am.

You can use the Fallout Mod Manager to extract files from a BSA provided that all you are doing is extracting them to a folder.  I use it for Skyrim without issue.

Cool. I will try with the new game. Hopefully it will work properly.

Day one of people playing the game is day one of the game being modded.  The first part of any mod is identification of glitches, missing content, things that don't make sense, "floating trees", Julio would look better with a goatee, That armor could use a little cleavage, etc.  The tools will be developed along the way as will bodies, skeletons, Script extenders, etc.  People will cobble things together in the same chaotic pattern that we have seen since Morrowind.  Essential fixes becoming irrelevant with patches, patches breaking things and new fixes being needed.  Modders coming and going, some like machines with incredible mod after mod, Some with a single essential offering and you never hear from them again.  Body types rising and falling, people pouring their hearts and souls into mods and sharing with everyone.  There is no overall organization to any of it, but it all fits in the end creating a gaming experience like no other.   And in 10 days, we see the cycle begin again.

@Doc

So like I said, look for FO4 Sexout/Sexlab a year after the game is released and just deal with it.

One of the benefits I get from trying to wait till the game of the year editions come out. I get all the dlc AND all the talented modders have already created a host of lovely content.  Will I want to buy the game day one? Hell yea but I've got a bunch of stuff in my steam library to work through first  :P

This is a really respectable approach. Get the game when the (humongous) price will be down, and get all mods that will be done.

And probably is the approach the majority of games should follow.

Then there are the people that will make the mods you will enjoy. A part of them will start late, some others will start as soon as possible.

(Just a different approach, nothing bad in one or another.)

P.S. I gave myself only one week of free playing without checking what is behind (starting from the moment I can download the game. Will it be day 1? With 4 millions people and more pre-ordered, I don't think this will be the case.). Then I will start to make mods possible by reverse engineering.

P.S.: No offense intended to anybody.

I really hope there is no problem downloading. I hope Steam is prepared for this. They should be considering they are all Pre-orders. I do understand that it might take a bit more time to download before being able to play because of the number of copies being downloaded. I just don't want to be froze out or have a server crash when I want to play the game .. like yesterday. Shame they can't let it download before hand and just not allow it to activate. That would be nice for the customers and easier on the servers.

Then I will start to make mods possible by reverse engineering.

:P.. I might just extract the BSA for fun !!!!... lol. That is about all "reverse Engineering that can be done by me.. lol.

Looks like shit , its probably a PS4 version. Which was always a underdeveloped , or PC version with forced low settings. Its like someone turned off shadows and ambient oclusion.

Poor console guys.

Waiting for the GotY version is a pretty good idea, you'd be getting all the 2-4 DLCs including mini DLCs that make up the Season Pass, and the Unoffical Patches will be out by then, as well as ENB (including ENBoost and ENBHost) and things to improve stability otherwise. Even if you plan on playing a virtually unmodded vanilla game before pouring in heavy mods other than just texture improvement mods that will still likely give you a better overall feeling with less crashes and inconsistencies than the game is guaranteed to have at launch. I mean this is Bethesda, we know by now their games are going to be buggy, partially from experience and partially because the games are just so massive and comprehensive squashing all the bugs and issues becomes problematic unless you want to add six months to release date. And from a modding standpoint, at that point it's a loss less likely an official update will come out that will break 1/3 of your mods entirely until they can be updated, as I guarantee you will happen when the DLCs come. Don't really bother with big overhauls of rule systems until the final DLC is out unless you want to reinstall your game for each DLC.

Not going to be able to resist it myself, as much as possible I'm going to be day 1, I ordered my physical copy that will hopefully arrive on the launch day or sooner. Half the game still needs to be downloaded from Steam (it's an anti-piracy thing, Skyrim was the same way) so that makes me hope physical copies of at least PC will ship sooner, and having half the game on disc might make the download easier as well. Plus perk poster! Actuall that's the main reason for my physical copy. Really long since I bought a phsyical copy of a game, last was the Elder Scrolls collector's ediiton containing all the games released up to and including Skyrim, before then I think... The Old Republic in '11? Something like that.

Plan is to put in around 100 hours of mostly unmodded play, exploring the world, killing thousands of things, trying to max out my character and get all the perks, etc. That will give me a lot better idea of what would need to be modded properly later on. If I install mods during this play it'll be things like a rudimentary ENB, maybe to fix things that annoyed me too much like UI elements. But I have to say I actually like a lot of what we've seen of the UI, definetly so the UI stuff that shows up when you are in the power armor, that's really awesome. Textures are impossible to judge, we haven't seen detailed enough screenshots and youtube videos are too low resolution, while they look good so far they may be blocky as hell up close. Skins and faces look great of what we've seen, I'm liking it a lot, nice blend of cartoon and realism, a lot prettier and less rugged than Skyrim's skin textures. Females we've seen so far looked pretty decent, much better than say Dragon Age Inquisiton. And the perk system... I have to say the idea of it and the potential complexity of the ranked perks in regards to builds have been growing on me. I already have some pet peeves however, like during E3 we saw in the weapon modding UI that rather large changes to the look of the weapon didn't have the stat changes (damage, weigth, etc) that you would expect. Also I'm really nervous about how the balance will feel on level 50-100, it's almost guaranteed mods will be needed there.

Not sure how you can say that, ALL of the gameplay and screens we have seen so far have been console, mainly X-Box One.

Turns out the console versions of the game is locked at 30 FPS, PC version being set to 60 FPS might explain the comparative large recommended requirements, minimal is basically the hardware of a current gen console and should be good for 30 FPS then as well. If I notice stutters in my game with my comparatively old processor I might cap my FPS at 30 until I upgrade later.

The UI HUD looks so horrible. Worse than Fallout 3's vanilla version.

Running: o-0

Looking pretty good compared to Skyrim. I'm more interested in the female version though. :)

Having blood means that the PC isn't an android... unless it's fake blood of course.

Bethesda took it back to the roots with the morrowindesque running animations.
