Some odd Bugs

Well I tried asking on nexus but got no replies. Let's see if anyone here knows.

So I have a rather unusal bug in my game, and it occurs across any and all saves, new or old, so it isn't from a mod uninstall corrupting a save.

In the quest sheogorath gives you to solve the three trials in Pelagiu's head, I can only do two of them. the path to  the sleeping pelagius cannot be entered, an invisable wall is blocking it. i've free camera'd over there and he is in bed ast there, but I cannot GET there.

I've just been using setstage to pass the quest but I wyould like to fix it if at all possible. Does anybody have any ideas why this would happen?

I also have ANOTHER unusual bug. In the broken tower redoubt, the place you go to get the new sybel for the temple of dibella, the last tower you climb to get to the cell is... shifted? About halfway up, the upper half of the tower is moved over so that the inner wall cuts through the midle fo the stairs. easy to deal with, just walk up th eouter half to be in the shifted part. if you go in the iner half though you fall out of the map.

Has anyone seen this bug?

Here is a screen of the tower thing. Gotta give the forsworn credit for finding me outside the map

Not encountered either of these so it's hard to be certain.

The Mind of Madness issue has the air of a vanilla bug but there is no mention in the UESP wiki which I normally rely on for identifying these.

The staircase issue sounds like an unintended edit. Take a look at the support threads for any mods that alter that interior including lighting mods.

Make sure you have the Unofficial Patches installed, clean the Official Update and DLCs [1][2] and use LOOT to sort everything.

TCL will solve your problems...

Clipping will get a player through broken geometry or other unintended physical barriers to progress. However some impediments are products of quests, things that should be disabled or altered as the quest progresses. If they are not updated correctly then the quest may not be progressing normally. Simply clipping through a door or barrier, or coc'ing into a cell will not necessarily fix things.

ideally the root of the problem (dirty edits, vanilla bugs, etc) should be identified and dealt with so that we can play without being forced to open the console.

The Unofficial Patches fix a host of vanilla bugs, including many problems with quests, and should be considered part of a standard install.

Yes, I do have the unofficial patches (Is there anyone who DOESN'T?). I suppose TCL could get me through pleagius wall though wheather or not it will fix the quest progression I donno (I'd have to try it and, as it happens, I'm now away from my skyrim install for about two weeks starting yesterday) And if would be nice to not need to console however Since I was planning on cleaning a lot of the install up anyway, that might fix it. For example, I had a ENB installed a few months ago that I removed because, for some reason it cut my framerate to 26 (never did figure out why, my friend has an identical rig with an identical ENB and his FPS holds in the 50-60 range, never dropping below 45) He said that to remove all I needed to do was revert the settings, uinstall with NMM, and delete the .dll from teh skyrim folder so there are a lot of files from it left over. Is that the cause? i have no idea, probably not. but removing them is simple enough.

Out of curiosity, what did you mean by "clean the official updates and DLC's"

For any interested, the rig that cannot handle the aforementioned ENB for some reason:

Asus Z87 Mobo

Intel gen4 Haswell i7-4770k (3.8ghz I think)

16GB Crucial RAM

Asus GTX770 OCII w/ 2GB VRAM

So yeah, not a weak system by any means.

Incidentally, I find it funny that when posted on the larger nexus forum, I get no response, whereas people here readily try to help, even if they don't know for sure. Just goes to show what I already knew, this community is far nicer and more helpful than most.

The official Update and DLCs are a mess. These links will give you some idea of how to deal with that using TES5Edit:

Creation Kit Cleaning Guide - Technical description of the problem and solution.

Skyrim Beautification Project Cleaning Guide - A more accessible guide with plenty of screen shots.

The latter guide suggests cleaning all your mods. Don't do this. Just clean the Update and DLCs. Beyond that LOOT should give you some idea of mods that require cleaning.

Mistakes here can completely break the game. Make backups before you start.
