Following Download Threads Gets Notifications When There's No Updates

I didn't find a dedicated place to talk about in-site issues, so I posted here. I apologize if this is the wrong spot!

--------

Currently, following a thread seems to give you notifications whenever the OP is updated or something. This is less ok when you're following dedicated download threads in the download section, and I was wonder if it would be possible to ONLY show notifications for when files have been changed or added for threads in the downloads sections...?

You have two options...follow the topic (info for new postings in this thread) and follow the file (info,if the file or the Description was updated)

I am aware of that, but a whole lot of the time authors tweak descriptions without actually changing any files. It would be nice to not have to go check, then double check that my version is current (and a lot of authors on here use super non-standard version numbering, such is raw dates only).

No their isnt a way for the site to tell whether an author has tweaked the description or tweaked the download, i imagine that sort of option would need to be present for the author to select (update type maybe) although whether the site itself would support something like that is a different question.

I asked Ashal about this once, because I was sick of getting false updates and also sending out false updates for my mods. It seems it's a limitation of the forum system.

Yeah I was afraid that would be the case. Still, nice to get some clarification, even if it can't be fixed... I'll mark this as "solved" then and just continue to put up with it, just wanted to check if it was even remotely possible to fix (no harm in asking, right?).
