Corrupt screenshot files?

I recently tried the preview of Win10 and my machine didn't like it. So I reinstalled Win7 and of course Skyrim and everything else.

My problem is that now when I take screenshots my computer's normal programs (Paint, Windows Live Photo Viewer, etc.) tell me I can't open them because they're either corrupt or the program can't handle that type of file. I've already chosen them to open in those programs so I had to assume they're corrupt. I reinstalled GIMP 2 and when I open them with that they're black and white with horizontal lines across them. And, even weirder, I used to get two copies of every screenshot, one vanilla and one with my SweetFX added. But now I only get the vanilla pics and no modified ones at all.

Has anyone run across this sort of thing before? How did you fix it? I'd hate to have to reinstall Skyrim again, but since I use Mod Organizer at least I won't have to reinstall all my mods.

I always take screenshots by using ctrl+print screen, then pasting it into paint and saving it as a JPG. You might want to try that.

OK. I think I have this fixed. The corruption was probably because I had settings too high for my potato. LMAO!! I switched to windowed mode at 1280X720 (and still turned texture quality up) and it took usable screenshots. Although it now only gives me Sweet_FX pics I am not worried. I usually deleted the vanilla ones anyway.

So I guess this could be useful for other members in the future.

Yeah, that's what I used to do, too. For now I have bmp files set to open with GIMP2, though, and that allows me to export as whatever format I want. In this case jpg format.

Ok :) A lot of people aren't aware of ctrl+print screen, or a lot of the Windows hotkeys, tbh.

What's the difference between ctrl+printscreen and just printscreen?

ctrl+print screen saves it to the clipboard, so you can paste it in any program that supports images

Ah, then this allows me to use that in game and paste it to paint or GIMP. Good to know. Though, I don't need to really use it, but it's good to know. Thanks.
