Having had to go and look to see what this even is, my reading of this http://geck.bethsoft.com/index.php?title=Reference

From reading it you don't actually have it in the skyrim ck as such, if you want add barrel for example called MyBarrell0001, then it has its own contents depending on which barrel you choose as its base, then you add your content/script whatever to MyBarrell001 and the only affect MyBarrell001 and only that item, hmm, let me know if that makes sense to you.

Edit, just had a though, what are you wanting to do?

Right click on a thing (actor, the barrel, something)... Click on  Edit.

On the top, you will se the name of the object in question and is ID.

Upper, you have a blanck space : it's here you will write the reference.

The game will use the reference as the object name into the cell... but nothing will change into the objects list.

For example, if you look into objects list, Ysolda is "Ysolda"

But in the whiterun small world, Ysolda is "YsoldaREF"

reference becomes persistent it it is used by something.

For example when you make an alias linked to some object then that object becomes persistent - either you like it or not.

Right, so you want 100 boxes in the player home, that do not re-spawn?

If so, in the ck go down to world objects - container, it will list a load of boxes and chests you can use as a start, choose one and open it up, delete any contents it already has.

Then in the ID box rename it to whatever you want, for example Player_Box_001 note the ID will not allow spaces, and in the name box, change it to something descriptive, example Player House Container 001, if you look at the area just below the id, and name there is a tick box to say re-spawn, remove that tick, this will give you your non-re-spawning box, Now take that item and keep changing the ID and name another 99 times, this gives you your containers.

Then choose the world area you want in this case the house, and drag and drop them to where you want them in the house, fiddle around with placing till they are where you want them to be an bobs your uncle I think.
