/sigh.  The last thing I did was install, through nexus mm, a valerica mesh and texture change.  I load the game up through SKSE and my save game had my main character without a schlong.  He couldnt move and when I tried, the screen blurred and darkened.  I should add that the load game mentioned that something was missing.  Odd since I didn't remove anything at that point.  Maybe I had more than 250 things?  Ok, so I  removed some followers from my list.  Game wouldn't even load after I did that.  TESedit provided no errors.  Its probably time to start from scratch anyway.  I hope FO4 is better in regards to mods and mod limits than Skyrim is.  Although since that engine is supposed to be built off the skyrim engine I don't know how well that will turn out.

 

I literally install texture replacers, armors and followers with the occasional Levelers Tower and the odd player home.  Nothing has changed recently except for the valerica mod unless the update to NMM that I did prior to the Valerica mod screwed something up.  That is entirely possible.

One problem is NMM. It doesn't allow you to create a profile for mod testing, to make sure a mod is going to have no ill effects on your current save/install. (Testing is always a good idea)

As far as solving your issue goes, we need more information. Load order, mod list, skyrim / skyrimprefs .ini configurations... so on and so forth.

As far as FO4 being better to mod? Well... it's modding. There are going to be conflicts with mods, and mods that aren't written properly, or just plain unstable mods from pure laziness to debug (or total inability to do what is intended). 

It happens. It's part of modding, and learning what mods work best with what is part of the adventure. 

As to FO4 being built on Skyrim? I was under the impression that they're doing an entirely new revision of the Gamybro engine geared specifically at FO4. Mostly because of the limitations / instabilities of the Skyrim engine. It may be a revision and update of the current engine, and take the source code and fix errors, or it could be a total rework from the ground up. That remains unseen. Either way, I've been under the impression (since E3) that it's basically a totally new engine.

I also agree than NMM is the problem here. It's too limiting and too dependant on the user to stick to a strict mod installation order. MO has none of that (you can install in order then drag and drop into the desired order after the fact).

All overwrite really does is allows you to take files that are overwritten by something and make a new mod out of it. 

Example: When you save a character preset with Racemenu

Example: When you run FNIS (it's possible to have multiple FNIS runs for different mod setups, so you don't have to rerun FNIS every time you switch profiles.

Example: When you run Bodyslide (Same with FNIS and different setups. Allows you to use different body styles for each PC/Playthru)

Example: DynDOLOD: allows you to have different texture setups, and let your LOD textures reflect your different texture setups

Example: Installing a mod with Wrye Bash (or other mod manager ran through Mod Organizer) to create individual mods based on packages that Mod Organizer can't handle by default (See my Morroblivion or TTW guides for examples on this)

Yup, the overwrites features is awesome. All you do is take all the overwrites for that profile then "make a mod" from it giving it a name that reflects the profile name and activate it at the bottom of the left pane. Easy peasy. Then fire up a new profile and do it again. Fortunately it only takes a few seconds to create the new mod.

so i installed wyre bash.  if I right click on that screen in the instruction on the link you provided its only giving me options for that particluar file.  unless the menu names have changed.

You are thinking of random alternate start Alternate start live another live lets you chose your start and all of the starts that put you near hostiles make them friendly until you have had a chance to escape and there are many other starts available such as starting in one of the inns or starting in one of the guilds with the introductory quest completed or starting as a vampire or just playing the vanilla start.
