armor mods not showing up in crafting menu

need a lil help here.  i've modded badly in th past and have restarted twice, but haven't done a clean reinstall.  i now have armor that i can craft, but there is no preview image or a default clothing image is used.  the majority of missing images have fx117 in th name, but i don't remember what mods i was using when i installed th armor and it worked properly.

th majority of mods used were from a huge second-hand collection that i've long since deleted, but all armor installed worked at one time

other than (groan...) starting all over again with a totally clean reinstall, what can i do or what should i alter to either get this working again or deleting the corrupted files?

any serious feedback is welcome

Can you make the armor that does not have a preview image?

Can you wear it, or does it not show up at all?

All armors have 3 separate mesh files:

<armorName>_0.nif

<armorName>_1.nif

<armorName>_go.nif

_0 and _1 represent the armor's appearance at minimum and maximum weight, whereas _go is the mesh file used in the preview for crafting and inventory menus. If the armors show up correctly while you're wearing them and the only thing missing/wrong is the preview, then you're just missing the _go file.

This actually probably isn't a problem on your end.

Some people who make custom armour do not *bother* to make the <armorName>_go.nif file that WraithSlayer mentions.

So it's not that you installed the armour mod wrong or you did anything wrong. The modder didn't supply one or simply just used a vanilla piece of random clothing to represent that.

Yes it can be annoying when a modder does this because it can be hard to remember what the armour looks like if you've installed many custom armours. i ended up tabbing out of the game and googling to remember if i even want to craft this "preview-less" piece of armour >.<

So anyways... it is likely nothing you've done wrong. Nothing. No reason to clean install. Because the files you are "missing" were likely /never created/ by the modder who did the armour.

Some good tips here already. What you can try to do, is to cheat, and spawn the armor with the console.

If you can wear it, and it shows up on your body, no worries.

As those above me already have mentioned, sometimes some modders don't bother with a preview.

And sometimes they don't even bother to make it possible to craft, and you will have to use console commands to get it.

Sometimes they even say so in the read me etc etc.

thnx for all of th feedback.  got busy and didn't get a chance to reply till now.

all of th armor is craftable and wearable, as well as upgradable

after thinkin about it for a bit, i can't remember if those files ever did have a crafting preview at all, so whimsie has a valid point

my biggest concern was if i had dropped one body replacer for another (which i did) and that action had corrupted all fx117 mods

i can accept that there simply aren't previews for those files, but i still wonder if switching from COTS to skykids did th deed

a lot of x117 mods simply lack previews. Changing to skykids wouldn't have affected crafting previews.

Unless you were using some odd installer or mod manager, and even then, it would be really unlikely that a change would corrupt armor mod files.  They should all be in their own folders.  Body mods would have their own and the two should not interfere.
