Loot - Will organize your esp load order by multiple ways.

It is the follow up program to the old load order tool (can't remember the name of the old one cause I'm sleepy).

That and Mod Organizer.

Yes the same MO can be set up for each game (will need a copy of mo set and pointed to FO3, then a third copy pointing to FNV).

Don't forget to turn on Archive Invalidation for the profiles you create.

In other words:

You should have 3 main folders: Mod Organizer Skyrim, Mod Organizer FO3, and Mod Organizer FNV

Create a shortcut to each on the desktop (one at a time and rename them so they don't overwrite the other shortcuts). MO Skyrim, MO FO3, and MO FNV would be good names to rename the shortcuts.

From inside each instance of MO you can create shortcuts for selected programs (like nifscope, tes5edit, loot, nvedit, fo3edit, etc)....

And you can create a shortcut from inside MO to run loot (is actually better then the sorting option that comes with MO, in my opinion).

Then look at the Stability tutorials for each game for optimizations to the ini files and double check any and all mods against each other to see if they replace/conflict with other mods.

I currently run 113 mods on my TTW install of F:3 / NV.    NV starts to get texture issues with more then 135 mods installed, may or may not happen to you at 135 but thats the start of it, and the game will give you a warning upon load in.

187 on my Skyrim.  Think Skyrims was 250?  Sorry can't remember if its right.

I get more troubles in Skyrim then I have ever had with F3/ NV.

Key is to use LOOT to sort your mods correctly, and read ALL OF THE OP for each mod you end up getting.  Sometimes you won't realize 2 mods are not gonna work together even if you think they wont clash at all, yet the mod author of one will mention NOT to use said other mod, due to " possible " conflicts.

Now not saying that most mods WILL have conflicts with those mentioned in some mods OP, but they may cause problems.  One such example is the Sexlab Dialogues mod.  Lots of people have said they have issues with that one in other mods that add or customize the dialogue for in game Skyrim.  Me personally I have not had issues using that mod, so until I have an issue I will keep using it.  Just make sure that you try to get a basic understanding of what a mod will alter within your DATA files so that your not trying to get 2 or 3 mods that alter say the same menu file and end up getting a screwed up UI.

After you install any mod make sure you use TESEdit or FNVEdit ( and so on ) to make sure you don't have any missing masters.  That with LOOT should give you the most basic knowledge of what you need to keep your load order/ mod installs decent even if your over 150 total mods.

Depending on if you use NMM, MO, or FOMM depends on how and what you should do while installing mods to your games.

Manual installing mods may or may not cause issues.  Best way to see if something may conflict is to open up your mod's rar/zip file put it to your desktop then go into where you have your game installed.  Open up the Data folder in your game file.  Then open the folder on your desktop of the mod you want to install.   Open that one all the way up to where you can see the full Folder path, as to where the files will be.  Then compare it to what you already have in your DATA folder for your game.  Just make sure when you move the stuff over it won't be overriding some previous mods files ( unless thats what your intent is).

Other then that I would suggest looking at some mod install guides here on the forums under the games you want to play.  Hope this helps some.

LOOT is not good for oblivion do not use it for it use BOSS instead because LOOT is no longer being updated for it so it will not sort your load order correctly.

For skyrim try to stay away from having a script heavy install as eventually those builds will make skyrim give you the middle finger too many mods with scripts can cause bloat CTD's too many scripts firing off at the same time. Also watch how many high graphic things you install as those can cause problems as well. For skyrim I installed a few of these a few of that a few script type mods and the rest are armor/outfit mods. I don't have too many problems with skyrim.

For oblivion I unpack a mod throw away their .esp and just add the meshes from the files to my .esp of the armor/outfits that I want and throw away what I don't want. I do the same thing with fallout NV except I don't have a .esp made I just piggyback someone else's mod and add the things I want to their chest in their .esp.

How many mods you can run is also dependent on what your computer can handle. Other things can play into how well your game works like for fallout NV many think that the BSA's count towards your load order so having tons of those can cause problems.

It all really depends on how much stuff you try to cram into your games go past the limit your computer can handle and boom you will start to have problems. I have max mods for skyrim but most are armor/clothing and I just untick and select a different armor/clothing .esp when needed. I use NMM but it's a older build and I never update it.

experience is the key to a stable client.

that is what i'd learned since release of skyrim.

i'm using wrye bash and loot. and i'm a big friend of manually installed mods. that gives me the abillity to find errors faster, because i know my used mods and i know where i have to look.

I've found that 90% of all CTD and stability problems are due to sheer laziness. Mine. I kind of skim the text and install the mod.

Much, much later I find out I was supposed to install it a certain way, use another mod with it, do something to it. All I had to do was read the fucking manual as they say. But no, in my infinite stupidity I skim it and suffer the CTD debug later.

These days I try and read more to save my future self headache.

Forgot to post when I posted that I only use NMM for skyrim oblivion is OBMM (oblivion mod manager) and fallout 3/NV is FOMM (fallout mod manager).

For me there are 3 things:

1- Load Order - LOOT is good if you are not sure of what goes where. With experience you will learn what belongs where and can stop using it, I did as I don't like how it tosses everything in random spots.

2- Scripted mods - There are 2 things to look at and avoid with scripted mods: 1- are they broken and cause lots of errors and 2- are they aggressive and are doing things every few seconds. Also, while a heavily scripted mod that is well made won't cause issues itself if you have too many of them it can cause some slowdowns when they all try to do things at once.

3- Conflicting mods - Having multiple mods that try to change the same thing or do the same thing can cause issues especially if they involve scripts.

I typically run 250 esp's with Skyrim with no issues and was able to get about 160 running in Oblivion (any beyond the limit would not be loaded). If you are having issues or are adding heavily scripted mods check your papyrus log from time to time for regular or repeating errors, they may need moved due to a conflict or removed altogether.

You may need to manually adjust the load order yourself. I don't use LOOT as it throws everything all over the place so I do it all myself. This is the order according to the type of mod in my load order:

- Texture packs

- Utilitues and Major Overhauls

- Weather and Lighting

- Minor Overhauls (changes small things in mechanics or the world)

- NPC's

- Beauty and Hair packs

- Creatures

- Adult

- Armor and Weapons

- Any mods that require being at the bottom of the list

- Merge / Bashed patch

Overall I work from mods that change large / general things and work to the ones that do small / specific things.

that don't change anything

here's a conflict

ZDPn7Yd.jpg

if you want requiem and obis, there's a patch for that

if you want requiem and revenge of the ennemies, there's a patch for that

but if you want obis, requiem, feminine female, npc 85 and revenge... there's no patch for that

if you let npc 85 overwrite everything, game can still load that npc without problem

you will ctd if the game can no longer load something

If one mod screws everything up and load order doesn't fix it then they decide which they really want. As for large overhauls like those I avoid them exactly for those reasons.

Also after running LOOT you should also run TES5EDIT just to double check your load order to make sure everything is correct and to also see if it throws out any other errors.
