what does it mean when i equip armor and nothing appears on the body

Most common one is that you downloaded a file for the armour in a certain body type, but that download still requires the original file for the textures, take a look in the file you downloaded if there is no textures directory that is most likely the culprit.

Are you playing around with armor in Outfit Studio? If, yes, then right click on the pieces, hit build skin partitions, save the file and re-equip. You can fuss around with armor while the game is still up. Just minimize the game, fix the armor, and in game just unequip it and then put it on again.
