Sir SnowOwl

Swaping to MO, advice please.

I have never used MO but I now wish to swap from NMM to MO. What is the best way to do this?

Do I uninstall my mods in NMM and then uninstall NMM, Install MO and install my mods with MO?

or will it take a full reinstall of the game?

Also what about save games, will these be ok or would I be better starting a fresh game?

You can install MO and import all your files from NMM. It works good. No need for deinstallation. You can also continue to play your present save(s) in MO, but, starting new game is better.

HI SnowOwl,

Switching from NMM to MO is quite simple really. But before you start using MO, you really need to read up on what it can and can't do. The officialy MO guide is hosted on the STEP site here. When you are ready to start using MO, you might find it helpful to read and follow at least the initial setups from the STEP Guide here. That will show you how to install MO correctly and set it up for use with 3rd party programs, such as TES5Edit, LOOT and Wrye Bash. You can also browse the rest of the STEP Guide to see if the mods you are using are listed and how best to set them up. Or maybe you can follow the whole guide. That is entirely up to you :)

Once you have setup MO correctly, you can simply import your mods from NMM via the tool NMM Import in the Tool Menu (the puzzle piece with a red piece) and that should take care of it for you. If you are unclear of something, please read the official MO guide. That really has all the answers. Or ask here of course :)

Good Luck!

If you are using the latest version of MO, then when you run the build-in loot (not really recommended though), it will update the masterlist automatically before running LOOT. So it should update itself.

The easy way is to install MO and then use the import tool to transfer the mods from NMM to MO. Most of time this works well, sometimes it can cause bugs, though.

To be absolutely safe, first uninstall every single mod and then NMM. After this, go into steamapps\common\Skyrim and delete everything except the \data and \DirectX10 folders. Go into the \data folder and delete everything except the skyrim.bsa, update.bsa and the .bsa files of the DLCs. Should be 8 files at max, Skyrim, Update, DG, HF, DB and three HR .bsa files.
Next, open Steam, right-click Skyrim and go to "Properties" >> "Local Files" tab >> Click "Verify Integrity of Game Cache". Let Steam Download the missing files.
Now, go to [uSER]\AppData\Local and delete the whole \Skyrim folder. Do the same in [uSER]\Documents\My Games, delete whole Skyrim folder.
Now start the Skyrim Launcher through Steam once, and let it create the .ini files. No need to start up the game here.
After this, your Skyrim installation will be absolutely Vanilla.

Now, you can install MO and build up your mod list again. I'd recommend to go through this guide for getting a nice, good looking and stable Bootstrap. Maybe let it just like this and duplicate the bootstrap profile for actual playthroughs. then you always have one profile with correct STEP setup ;)

@Lenore: You need to download the LOOT.API.[...].7z and change the [MO Installation]\Mod Organizer\loot\loot32.dll with the downloaded one. And only use this one file. After this, you probably need to restart MO and/or delete the \webcache folder.

I'm not sure if you were responding to me or previous post. I meant that to OP.

However, I have heard LOOT and MO don't play well together. Not LOOT in MO. But I don't rely on the LOOT that is in MO because the few times I've used it, its missorted some mods in wrong load order. Or it believes one should be below the other which it shouldn't and it causes in game problems, so I always stick to manually sorting my mods.

Word of advice from one MO newbie to another: you absolutely must run external programs like GenerateFNISForUsers through MO, or it will simply not pick up on files added through MO...

Speaking of FNIS:

When installing FNIS, get (of course) the latest versions FNIS 5.5, Fnis creatures 5.3 AND the fix. Installing the two FNIS main files is pretty straight forward: select/ double click, manual, right click until it says "Looks Good" and installing/ Merging. However installing the FNIS Fix is a tad different: do the previous stepsuntil you have set the <data> folder on top; it will NOT say "Looks Good"! But install it like that anyway, ignoring any errors MO will give you. It will install correctly. Just a heads up.

And of course, always run FNIS through MO.
