Loverslab timing out issue?

It seems like lately every once in a while it takes forever for a page to load and then sometimes timing out error occurs. If you wait a moment it will go away, but it seems to be happening quite frequently. I have experienced it at least once per day. I do not have this problem with any other website and Loverslab has not done this before.

And when visiting with my other browser, IE as opposed to Firefox, I sometimes get a redirection to a false page claiming I have a virus and need to take their supplied action. This just happened, right during some serious lag time. Related? My first thought is that it's a shady ad provider.

If the "false page" is Cloudflare, it is NOT a false page. Cloudlfare is a service provided to sites (LoversLab included) that helps cache resources to help speed up load times. It also doubles as a security measure, if you are getting a notice from cloudflare on IE, then then your install of IE is very likely infected with something.

If it's not a Cloudflare page, then you are right to not trust it. However then the fact remains either way that if it is showing up, you are in fact infected with something, either cloudflare warning you of an honest infection, or a fake warning generated by an infection to try and get you to download more spyware or buy something.

Regardless of what it is do yourself the favor and run an antivirus software you can trust ASAP. Microsoft Security Essentials and Windows Defender are both free and quality products.

I've not noticed and long loads myself, but if I see one I'll do what I can to figure out why and fix it soon as possible.

Take a screenshot of it and show me what it looks like. I wouldn't recommend clicking anything on it till you know what it is for sure.

If it happens again, I'll definitely click on it. Then I'll know to wipe my drive. Like I said, it's only happened twice, once about two weeks ago and then today. I can't be sure it was while browsing here at LL, either, since I tend to multitask and get absent minded. I ran another full antivirus scan with the latest definitions and nothing came up. So if I have a virus, I'm like it's discoverer and should be able to name it. Otherwise, it was just something within my browser environment trying to trick me.

Ya I had some spyware on my computer once that totally fucked up my Google searches. Search results were totally different than what I wanted and the page looked incomplete with no graphics or anything. It can be nasty. Use Spybot Search and Destroy or Malwarebytes Anti-Malware, both free.

I admittedly was being kindly sarcastic, Jerbsinator. Though I did just now try your Spybot suggestion to see if it would catch anything missed by Windows Security Essentials. Still nothing. Coming up clean. The only questionable stuff found were some cookies within my IE browser, which would support but not confirm my original assumption that it was just an in-browser script.

I haven't noticed any lag or timing out today on LL. So far, it was just a one day occurrence. Maybe since most others didn't experience a problem, it was something to do with the path, like a DNS server attack or glitch. This would only affect people routed by that DNS server. Would also explain why it looked like I got rerouted incorrectly.

Not really true at all. Stuff like Avast, while the free version is passable to good, its made to sell you on their pro version, and pushes it very hard. As a result it tends to be a little bloated.

Frankly Microsoft Security Essentials and Windows Defender are both fantastic free products that do their job well without being bloated and trying to constantly sell you something. Both can pretty much be considered the best software Microsoft has come out with in a very long time, which is a low bar I know.

Bottom line is the best defense is always common sense. Don't open things you don't know the origin of and trust. Don't open shady looking urls, for example: ashalshax.nz.de/boobs.jpg/viewer.php, the domain name is private looking, not a publically used domain, the .jpg not being at the end indicates its doing stuff other than simply opening a static file (even at the end of the url this could be true). I wouldn't touch that link with a 10 foot pole. ALWAYS check where a link is going before clicking it, and if it's a shorted link (bit.ly and such) coming from somebody you don't really know, run it through a url UNshorterner so you can see where the link goes first.

If you don't trust your common sense enough to avoid spyware and viruses, then MSSE and Defender should be plenty. If you don't like Microsoft products, then in my opinion the best alternative would be Avast and Spybot. Just never fall for the trap of paying for any sort of security program, there are far to many quality free ones out there.

Personally, I don't run any sort of anti-spyware or anti-virus software, I find they slow the computer down to much. I"m also super cautious about everything I do online though to make up for it. I run a check for spyware and viruses every 3-6 months or so just to be safe and make sure I haven't caught anything, but between them they are completely turned off. I haven't had a virus or major spyware infection in years.

TL;DR Common Sense is the best defense. MSSE & Defender otherwise.

That's not a cloudflare warning of an infection. That's a page saying they couldn't actually access the site. Likely related to the timing out issue originally mentioned by OP.

Agreed. Same reasons I don't normally run with security software either except for firewalls. I only remember getting a malicious software running on my computer once, many years ago. Then I simply reformatted my drive, reinstalled windows, and used my backups; something I used to enjoy doing anyway every so often.

The timing out issue has improved a lot over the last 24 hours. I haven't had any problems today.
