Major Forum Updates - Work In Progress

909 posts in this topic

I am not sure why i can start topic under announcement, and feel free to delete it - i would just really like to request you add back in an option that will show you all lately updated mod, like this link used to work on old forum:

http://www.loverslab.com/files/category/1-skyrim/?dosort=1&sort_key=file_updated&sort_order=desc

It was the link i visited all the time to see if any mod was new, or old one had new version, and the second is now no longer possible :s

----

And it's back!!!! Thank you, and the site looks way more professional now and is actually easier to use, great job!

eye of the beholder i suppose, maybe i just dont like change but the old layout seemed superior

On the downloads link it use to be possible to click downloads, skyrim and then most recent and you could see if any had been updated

If i try this now it says there are no files

Will we have to now search through each sub category or will we be able to search as we could previously?

Hello. The new style is "new".

I don't like too much a few new things:

  1. The page uses only a static size of the browser page. On a big screen 50% of the browser window is not used
  2. There is too much space between the lines. Making difficult to read big messages.
  3. Spoilers colors
  4. Coding, not highlighting of keywords, Papyrus not supported as language
  5. Missing the BBCode
  6. Code inside Spoilers is rally hard to edit
  7. "Undo" Icon is weird
  8. Not possible to insert quickly an image
  9. Adding something after spoiler or a code section is difficult, and require drag'n'dropping the items back and forth
  10. Links to members/topics/downloads is not easy

Code example

Actor Property PlayerRef Auto

Event OnInit()
debug.MessageBox("This is a test string") ; And this is a test comment
  int i = 10
  while i
    i -= 1
  endWhile
EndEvent

Spoiler example

Spoiler

Can you really read a light gray on a white background?

Code inside spoiler

Spoiler

; This is code inside the spoiler
String s = "Test"
(Self as Actor).EvaluatePackage()

I know you said "not everything in the layout is final", but that implies that you're saying some things in the layout are final. Frankly, the layout is kind of awful right now.

Untitled.jpg

And uh, wow. I didn't even wrap that URL in img tags and it automatically displayed it anyway.

I appreciate that you're trying to improve the site but I don't think there was really anything wrong with the old layout.

Woah o.o

I feel like browsing the mobile version of the forums.

But it's not a criticism, it's still a WIP after all, good luck with the upgrade.

I've upgraded forums before. Give this some time. It's VERY configurable but it takes time for forum reindexing and going through all of the various formatting options for all of the various other formatting options. This is no small undertaking.

Unfortunately, I gotta agree with xTrogdorx's points, although overall, I'd rate it so-so.

Also, is it just me, or has contrast gotten significantly worse? Reading posts now is really putting a strain on my eyes.

Hi Ashal,

nice new layout, takes some getting used to :) as with all new layouts.

some things:
- I was hoping to see upload dates of the files (I understand if this would only be available for future uploads). Especially where modders provide multiple files it is often difficult to recognize the latest version uploaded. A quick check revealed that this info is still not present. If it is possible, would you consider implementing it? I know that many modders add the upload date or a version number to the archive's file name, but not all and it would make life easier for everyone. This was my one major gripe with the old forum.
- default single line line carriage (instead of having to press Shift+Enter every time)
- as mentioned by others: smaller tool bars, less empty space would be preferrable (or, if possible, an optional 'compact' switch / options under profile prefs)

thanks for the hard work in any case
cheers

I have the same link bookmarked and I already miss that feature, hopefully it is just transitional thing...

Assuming it is configurable, can you please remove or move the Conversation member list in the email notifications to after the actual message?

If you get an update in a huge thread with >30 members the member list can take up more space in the email than the actual message.

Yes! Please!

Unfortunately this new layout is noticeably slower (god, why nowadays functionality is slaughtered in favour of a few colourful/visually nifty splots?) and all my followed threads gone busted.
-- Edit --

Sorry, the subscriptions are OK, but the navigation on them is fucked totally, I can't get to the last page or post of the thread from the list.

I don't know about this layout, it will take some getting used to...

And I agree with LCroft, the site is slow as fuck in comparison to the old layout.

Oh wow this is certainly different from before, I'll have to get used to this new look but my first impression of it is positive.

The layout have a very nice style to it and the backgrounds seems really calm with it's blue/orange mix, aslong as it's functional I'm not really a harsh critic :p

I can't say I like this change. The previous interface was perfect, no need fixing something that's not broken.

And as xTrogdorx already pointed out, everything is way too tall.

EDIT: And where are all the blogs!?

I don't like this at all i can't find much of anything and it's just difficult for me to use I can't even check for updated mods or most recently added mods i do all this on my phone then bookmark the ones I want and then get on computer to download when I get the chance with this new update I can't do anything The old version was a lot easier to use there was nothing wrong with this was my favorite site for mods but now it stinks since as I said before I can't do anything

Attachments for downloads are showing up as text, not html, so they can't be clicked and downloaded.

I feel like things were a bit rushed and you should have put this theme in beta to avoid some of the justified negative feedback.  It is good looking, but some ergonomy has been lost in the process.

Everything is fine to me except those excessive margins and the fact it's slow as fuck.  But I'm confident you'll get there.

About the empty space on the sides of the actual site:

Spoiler

Untitled.thumb.jpg.dcbab4a41ba50cd597802

Note, the image is a screenshot of my monitor (2560X1600), I removed the top bar (cropped), and the format is Jpeg at 50% quality. The original PNG file was 2.6 Mb...
