Glossy Bodies on Custom Races?

Hello, I used nifscope to edit the glossiness of both female upper and lower body .nif's. It works fine on Imperials and Nords but when I use a custom race (in my case Moonshadow Elves) there's no gloss at all.

Sorry if this has been answered before but any help would be appreciated.

We should really (ya rLy ) create a Tutorial Section here :§

It has already been answered quiet a few times actually and you have to know that the gloss is governed by the glossiness of the nif AND the brightness of your body texture's alpha channel.

SO you'll have to edit the .dds ;)

Sorry about that.

Could you link me to where someone explains how they edit the .dds and the procedure? Or could you explain it yourself?

Thanks in advance.

Yep,

I'll just give you some link first that might interest you :

For the dds,

1*Find the _n.dds of your character race AND AND AND make a copy of it somewhere just "in case",

2*Open it with GIMP (or wathever program you might have)

*Make sure you have the dds plugin installed (google's your friend ;)

3*Into chanel copy the alpha

4*Create a new layer in the normal pic zone

5*Increase luminosity

6*Merge the 2 layers

7*Copy the newly done brighter alpha

8*Paste it on the older one

9*Save

OR use the leasy(<3) way :

take one of the many already "oiled" skin texture dds available and replace your _n.dds with the oiled :P

Question sir,

These are the .dds files of the Moonshadow elf race I'm using. Which particular .dds file do I edit? Will editing upperbody.dds also affect the lowerbody?

ddd.jpg

And do you know how to do it with Photoshop?

Also thank you very much for your help

If you are using the non-tattoo :

*moonshadowfoot_n.dds >>in custom race mod the foot.dds is the texture for the whole body except hand and head ;)

*Hand_n.dds

Still have to find your character head face_n and it's done ;)

Hopefully this is my last question...how does one increase luminosity of a layer in GIMP or Photoshop? Also, will my character's skin still be oily when I equip her with armor? And what if I just simply replace the dds files from my imperial textures? Will that work too?

I use a method that's a bit tricky :

create a new empty layer (on top of the skin text)

copy the alpha canal

paste it in the empty layer

use luminosity/contrast slider

merge if needed, copy the layer

paste the layer in the alpha canal.

You could do a new one by duplicating the body texture layer> making it black-white (thus grey)> adjusting light> pasting on alpha of the "_n.texture".

FOr the basic oily effect, it will be there no matter the armor BUT if you want to use the "next lvl" you have to adjust the glossiness of the body mesh in your armor.nif.

Ambient-Diffuse-Specular Color at max withe, glossiness at 70-100 (check the difference ingame to choose the one you prefer).

Replacing textures can work but you have to be sure to use the right one, HGEC for HGEC, and as usuall save a copy somewhere before doing anything!

Enjoy ;)

BTW : http://bbs.3dmgame.com/showtopic-1318468.html (translator won't help much I guess but you can see some way to do it)
