CTD on Meridia Quest

[Ragged Robin]

Here's an odd one. Has anyone experienced a CTD when on the Meridia quest?

It occurs on trying to enter the necromancers' hideout in the Howling Cave.

I have nothing too exotic running and disabled all of what I consider the "usual suspects"

I'm running several of the lovers files though, this time no Crowning Isles nor Lovers Bitch. Also have Stoker Wolff and Drekmoor's Tardis mod. I should add that I have all the latest unnofficial patches with SI installed. Load order doesn't seem to help. I've used the one offered by Donkey and also the BOSS masterlist offered on this very forum.

I'm not usually given to helplessness as I prefer to sort out my own problems. This one has got me beat.

You may want to try to enter Howling Cave with a new character to see if the problem is caused by a corrupted savegame or by the load order. Also, post your mod list, maybe.

Not sure if this relevant, but you aren't by any chance playing with Kvatch Rebuilt are you ?? There seem to be way to fix it if that is the mod your playing with or else disregard this post if you don't have kvatch rebuilt in your list.

Meridia in it self should not bug out. Unless you have some mod that alters anywhere near or in that cave it self.

Cheers Donkey but no Kvatch rebuilt. Ran it once a long time ago, but not with this toon. I'm also 99.99999% certain that no lovers mods are responsible in any way. I did have a look around various forums to see if there were any posts on a bug in that area. Came up with zip...nada...nowt.

I only asked on the off chance someone else experience ctd in the same place. I'll root it out somehow.

I checked the wiki about that quest and typically if there are any known issues that can come up normally on a questline they list it but that quest has none listed. My guess is you have something loaded that altered something with either the cave itself or the necromancers inside.

I'll figure it out eventually. Kind of you to look though.

Drekmoor's Tardis mod bugged out not long after. Tardis door disappeared and I had no way out of it for a while. Thought it might be the culprit. but no. Switched mod off and clean saved and still couldn't get through the cave door to the necros. Also went to cave by conventional means, as always. I can get into the cave, it's the inner door behind the rock that bugs.

Nvm. I've left it for now, might go back later. Since, according to the wiki player can wipe out necros early in game and meet Meridia and automatically claim reward anyway. Will try it out with a new game in the future too.

You are a star for going to the trouble for me.

Oblivion is a wierd game full of "bear traps" for the unwary gamer.

Got it!

I had Stoker Wolff running. unchecked it and Tron.esp in wrye bash. Dismissed it as the culprit, but still had Underdark.esm running. Underdark was the culprit. That's what confused me - thought I'd eliminated it from my list of culprits. Oy do I feel foolish - I'm usually more careful and methodical in my approach. Now, if only I can find which door in Underdark is used I'll fix it for myself....

Too true ... all too true. Aleanne, I reckon that'd make a really good closing remark on a post, if ever I saw one!

What is so irritating is that the answer is often staring one right in the face the whole time. I'm still feeling a bit of an ook for missing the bleeding obvious this time and it won't be the last, I'm sure. It's just that I don't usually broadcast my foolishness in public that often.

1. I hate to admit either helplessness or defeat to myself

2. I prefer to solve my own problems or find a workaround that satisfies me and am usually content to not sweat the small stuff.

However it is nice to know that there are such kindly folk here who answer in a kindly manner with such good grace.
