MY HDD DIED. (i think)

Hi guys.

My PC turned an unexpected turn for the worse yesterday when i unconsciously updated my BitTorent to its latest version.

Not only my PC kept on freezing. I turned it off and slept for the night and then when i woke up and attempted to boot it. It didn't even make it beyond the Windows loading screen. Beyond that was a BSOD. Guess i have to reformat the damn thing.

Does NMM at least have a way to remember the list of mods we have in Skyrim? Or does that go to hell as well?

Oblivion's fine. Almost all of my games are LL mods and not Nexus.

Damn it. Foowk it. I'm sorry guys. Its just so frustrating. Almost all of my necessary shit's on my main drive. I'm going to pay my last respects before i reformat it. I think i'm going to cry for real now.

So, how do you know it's your hard drive? And if it really is your HD, how will reformatting it help? I mean, if it is really dying on you, then a format might work, might!, however, you'll face the same problem again as information corrupts again. If formatting solves the problem for good, then it never was a hardware issue.

Have you tried some basic less severe problem solving first, like maybe doing a windows restore, assuming you've been using restore points?

When was the last time you clean the inside of your computer, including heat sinks beneath fans? Though usually if it's heat related such problems slowly get worse and not just in one day.

Anyway, it sounds like it could be any number of things, hardware or software related.

The other day, mine wouldn't start up and would only do the MB beeping thing. I began first by unplugging the computer and flipping the power switch on the power supply off and back on, replugging, and IT WORKED, lucky me. I'm all about trying the simple basics first.

Most likely Windows being Windows. Corruption can cause this, if you need help let me know I managed to save my HDD after this happened. Who made your HDD by the way there could be an update to help make it more stable.

Well, at least it's better than what happened to my desktop. The SSD caused a BSOD and basically, it wiped the entire SSD clean and binned the chipset. So basically, my $400 SSD became a deadweight in one instance.

If a HDD is dying, there isn't a lot you can do since the controller is probably on its last legs. Might as well try and get everything out before moving onto a new HDD as HDD prices are a bit stable ATM.

Well regarding this, I used to have a BSOD every 3 months when I had WinXP + Win7.

Apparently WinXP was causing it, LOL.

A format wiping off WinXP and putting Win7 back fixed it completely.
