Mods that made you WANT to play Oblivion

Here's the only rule for this thread -

List out any mods that haven't already been listed, provide a brief description of them, and provide a link

You should ONLY do this if you are able to do ALL three of these things - name, description, and link.

And keep it non-adult, there's already too much discussion about adult stuff in the other forums :D

I'll start off:

Midas Spells

http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=9562

A collection of cool new visual effects for new spells (sprout wings, make time stop, get a flying carpet, etc.)

Animated Window Lighting System

http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=19628

More realistic exteriors (windows light up / turn off based on time of day)

Weather - All Natural

http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=18305

Reworking the traditional weather system, but more importantly - more realistic interiors, windows light up / dim based on time of day, lights inside buildings are "real lights" instead of one big humongous white light. (Makes a HUGE difference)

Darnified UI

http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=10763

Bigger, better map, inventory, and skills screen.

Quest Award Leveller

http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=5701

http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=10079 (for SI expansion)

No more waiting to do quests because you want better quality rewards!

Oblivion XP

http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=15619

Experience system overhaul that rewards you for stuff like completing quests, stealing things, or discovering new places instead of jumping in place until you run out of stamina.

Was already playing but those made play longer :

DMC Stylish - Animation Replacer
/>http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=16459

Great animation replacer for Fighting movements, and dual animations included!

Francescos leveled creatures items mod
/>http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=2518

First big overhaul, adding lots of items, creatures and npc plus some options to adjust the gameplay (economy, daylenght,...)

Drow Race v3_1 - Full - Plus Expansion Pack 2 - Final
/>http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=19753

For any d&d drow's fan this is a must have, dowloaded, played and enjoyed it for a long time before switching to another kind of cheracter.

(it also adds some items, spells, birthsigns drow related)

LOL I wish I had a better reason for re-installing oblivion and playing again but to be truthful, I was bored and cleaning up my pc room when I found the oblivion box. I though it would be cool to check it out again as it was certainly better than cleaning. Then I remembered there used to be a sex system for oblivion back when I was beginning to drop off playing oblivion. So I found loverslab... Technically lovers got me playing it again.

What keeps me playing it still are mods like CLS, Cursed armor, and to be 100% truthful, just creating new characters with the advanced facial construction mods available now is enough for me. I have not actually loaded the game to "play" for over 3 weeks now as I'm either loading it to test an esp that I edited and repacked for someone or to have a look at what a specific mod looks like in my game.

Me and my GF were playing Dragon Age, finished it enough times to burn a hole through the disc I think. Loved the romance aspects of it, and the improved sex scenes mods. Then came DA2, which we played a few times but it was just missing a lot of the elements that made DAO great. So I went looking for something new, and came up with something old instead :). Because we both got new pc's since the last time we played Oblivion, I thought it would be interesting to see how it would look with the graphics turned up for once ;)

As we were looking for those elements we missed in DA2, the first thing we did was look for some companion mods. CM Partners was one of the first mods I installed once I had everything up and running.

CM Partners: - http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=7819

It doesn't let you control existing NPCs but instead adds a lot of new ones all over Cyrodiil.

Since reinstalling Oblivion, I think we have both spent more time in the toolset than actually playing the game. Our CM partners mod is now quite different from the original, having redone all the original CM's and then added a whole lot more. It has around 150 characters that unlike the originals, don't spend all day hacking at walls. We added a lot of AI packages that make them play SI idles or UMPA dances and such so they're quite a lively bunch. We also upgraded the script to give them underwear for the sleep package, reduce processing on inactive partners (150 partners running the full script all the time is way too heavy), separated armed and unarmed follow modes, and reduced several small annoyances. We've been itching to release it, but don't wanna annoy the wrong person on Nexus and get the banhammer for using other people's content.

All in all, though, I'd say it was not particular mods that got us back to Oblivion, it was modding in general. Of course, trying out SexDarkness didn't hurt, and finding this place most certainly didn't hurt. I may find myself returning to Oblivion well after Skyrim's release, which I wasn't expecting before.

Hmmm, that's tough cause I've been playing since 2007, so I don't know what would have existed at the time.

I always had Oblivion installed, but the first mod that really got me into Oblivion was Female EyeCandy Body http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=10171.

All the armors that spawned from it were awesome, but soon lost traction when to the improved body HGEC (IMO) came out. I was staring to lose interest in Oblivion

till I found this site and found all the amazing armors. Since then I have been making screenshots and helping my friends in this community and others that I visit find mods

and helping them get there copies of Oblivion working.

@EvenstarGW

Wow, wish I can mod CM, but when it comes to scripts I'm only good at HTML. What you did to your copy sounds awesome. Wish my companions did half of what yours

can do.

I like to experiment, but my core install will always include a few mods besides the obvious adjustments (UOP, HGEC/Robert, decent LODs).

Here's a few:

No psychic guards - definitely a must in my opinion. Makes your life in Cyrodill much easier and realistic whenever guards and the law are concerned.

Unique Landscapes - not only it's lore-compliant, but it makes Tamriel much more alive and diverse. The kind of variety Bethesda should have factored in from the start.

Reaper's Adjustable Oil Lamp - small and coming relatively late, this mod will have you discard torches sooner than you can say "Mannimarco".

AWLS (with chimney edition, see closedtalon's post) - less diorama-like towns, just add lighted windows and actual chimney smoke.

Let there be darkness - makes dungeons and grottos dark and scary, the way they should be.

Lovers with Pk

Cursed Armor

DMRA associated mods

BBB enabled mods

There are quite a few mods I could add to the list. At different times of playing, these mods stood out and sparked new life into one of my favorite games of all time. :)

This is the simplest question in the world.

Ren's Beauty Pack, it was like a bright light at the end of a hellish place I call 'Vanilla Face-gen'.

Any mod that expands the world and makes it more immersive. Very few mods have brought me 'back' to a game, but I did think I was finished with Oblivion until I found Lovers back on Wolflore. It just re-enthused me.

At the end of the day i'm looking for a gritty, adult, and yet colorful fantasy experiance. The Elder Scrolls fit this. As do series' such as Game of Thrones, Berserk, and the mod for NWN 'A Dance with Rogues'. However, the Elder Scrolls has no problems with so many things (like hanging and rotting carcesses) yet always wussed out on the sexual aspect. Even Daggerfall, while the features where started, never had its built-in sex and prostitution system implimented.

Lovers adds that element to Oblivion if you use a small-selection of the mods on the lowest settings. The only thing no one has yet done is really added sexual solutions to existing quests. Still, its miles ahead of anything Morrowind had, the best of which was Lovers and Legends with Romance Integrated. It was still pretty basic when you look at what people are doing here.

I'm that for Skyrim things progress even more; and that it will all start here.

All in all though I play Oblivion because the Elder Scrolls are gems amongst RPGs these days, in a time when Bioware had started to disapoint me, with a great backlog of interesting Lore that gives life to the quests if you know it, and the open worlds and modding makes them potentially endless. Morrowind is starting to be ancient for a video game and even it still has a healthy modding community.

I’d need to go way back to answer this question. I was among the many that picked the game up played it for about a week and got so disgusted with it, I had to stop myself from throwing it out. Let’s just say my first toon never got past Kvatch. I really didn’t start looking at playing the game again about a year or so later when I learned for the first time about the mods for the game.

In all seriousness, the first mod I looked for was a weapon mod and something to rebalance leveling. So I guess my official answer to this thread is MMM and OOO got me wanting to play Oblivion again. Though, to be equally as honest, Exnem Eyecandy, BAB and the old Growlf Hot Clothes mods came very quickly after I started using modded equipment and OOO. Another mod that really grabbed my attention was Ramy’s Enfant race. I still use it.

Now with all the Lover’s mod, slut wear and the occasional content mod like CLS and Hentai Mania, its more of maintaining a collection then favoring any single mod. Still, OOO and MMM are at the core of my load list.

(I'm on my phone and can't post links, sorry)

Two great mods that make me want to play the game (aside from lovers :D) are Deadly Reflex and WAC

Most people already know what deadly reflex is. Makes vast improvements to combat as well as adding the iconic brutal finishers such as decapitations and throat slits. Combat ai adapts to your fighting style as well which is very cool. It can also be combined with UV 2: Taking Action (another excellent combat mod) for even more awesomeness.

WAC (Waalx's Animals and Creatures) is a mod on-par with FCOM. It is a conversion of oblivion, adding huge amounts of content including items, weapons, armors, NPCs, Creatures/monsters, and more. All are extremely well done. I especially love the creatures which are incredibly well varied, interesting, and balanced. The mod does plenty of other cool things but the crown jewel in the mod is the arena. WAC completely revamps the arena. The arena is divided into three teams now. You can visit each bloodworks and each one has gladiators training, doing pushups etc. There are also vendors with shops full of really cool looking weapons and armor inspired by roman gladiatorial equipment. The arena battles themselves are also vastly improved. The arena is more dazzling and the fights are more interesting. In addition to the main fight you have side battles where other combatants are fighting each other or random monsters. It's really cool. All in all an absolutely stelar mod.

In all honestly, the exact reason I picked up Oblivion was because I saw some images with sex mods, learned that they were sex mods and not just posers, and THEN I bought the game.

It wasn't until I played it that I fell in love and sank 500+ hours into the beast. Perversion got me there, the fact that I really enjoyed it made me stay.

EDIT: This thread reminded me to actually give the XP mod a try; I rather like it.
