Looping sound on many games

When playing games that eventually produce millions and millions of particles, my game freezes and loops the last sound played. Pretty fuckin annoying hearing the buzzing noise that won't stop unless I hold down the power button. I've updated all of my latest drivers, this seems to be a lot of problems with people with the Nvidia Geforce GT 540m on laptops. I recall once or twice being able to get to my desktop and seeing a popup saying Nvidia Geforce GT 540m Graphics driver has crashed but has sucessfuly recovered and of course eventually I have to hold the power button.

Here are my specs:

Windows 7 Home Premium 64 Bit

Intel I7 Core 2720 QM @2.20 GHz

Intel HD Graphics Family/Intel HD Graphics 3000

Nvidia Geforce GT 540m

So, anyone know any fixes? I've googled this like at least 300 times, each time dissapointed by these fixes that don't work. It seems to be the laptop overheating with the intel hd graphics gfx card, but I saw some things about this microsoft shit checking for your windows being genuine or not and removing that RemoveWAT or something like that.
