Oblivion not launching

Hello I have a problem my Oblivion is not launching and it doesn't seem to be a ctd because When I launch the game from steam then the launcher opens and I press play but nothing happens.

The weird thing about that is that I have been playing Oblivion before without problems and suddendly at the beginning of steam's summer sale the game didn't want to launch.

So those are the things I've done so far trying to fix it myself:

- I've reinstalled Oblivion completely and I deleted the documents folder and I've cleaned the registry with Ccleaner.

- I've updated my video driver and directX

- I've reinstalled steam into a new folder so oblivion is inside a new folder path ( I've read in the internet that that could help but it didn't).

So I've tried to contact steam support about two weeks ago but as you can expect I didn't get an answer.

I've already tried to find a thread with the same problem but I've only been able to find some about ctd's after the bethesda logo because the load order was wrong and stuff like that.

I think my problem might have to do something with my machine but that actually can't be because I've already played Oblivion for about 40 hours with this computer without a problem.

Ok, try this:

Find your oblivion.ini file in your my documents\oblivion\ folder and delete it. Then run OblivionLauncher.exe (this can be found in your steamapps\oblivion\ folder. When you reach the title screen then you can either play or exit out. What this did is make a new oblivion.ini file for you.

This particular file and folder will not uninstall with the normal program uninstall procedure typically, so you have to manually purge it.

If you've modded Oblivion check to see if you're missing any master files. Missing masters will cause the game to close immediately as well.

Yes I have already deleted the oblivion.ini but it didn't solve the problem and currently I have no mods installed the only aditional files I have are the dlc files

If you have run it before you should still be able to. Did you install it again and have steam verify the files?

I have already verified the chache. And maybe I really have to format my pc but i still don't know what caused this so suddenly. I just would like to know it to prevent it in the future.

You don't need to format. It sound like a Steam issue.

Delete evrything in the Steam folder APART from Steamapps and the steam exe.

DON'T empty the recycle bin!

Run the steam exe and let steam rebuild itself.

Tell us the results.

Ok Steam rebuild itself but the problem is still there. I launch the game with the launcher nothing happens for about one or two seconds and then the only thing that happens is that the steam-updater pops up what it always does when you leave a game.

But if it really is a steam issue then the game would have to work with a crack which really wouldn't make that much of a difference since it's a singleplayer game I've already paid for. So if there are no other solutions i might try that but I am pretty sure it won't work anyway (Beside the fact that I don't like this whole cracking thing).

Wait, what crack? If you are trying to run some crack for steam or the game, then all bets are off here and we will never be able to help you.

Also when you say you use the launcher..... are you hitting the play button in steam or what? You really should be using obse_loader.exe to launch the game.

I can't run it with obse_loader when I try that it tells me I should run it through Steam and activate the steam comunity so it launches itself. It always worked like that until a few weeks ago. And no I am not using a crack I just thought that might would have fixed my problem because that would have launched the game without steam.

My bad, I forgot that you don't use the loader with steam as it says in the readme.txt:

IF YOU ARE USING THE STEAM VERSION OF OBLIVION:

1. Copy obse_1_2_416.dll, obse_editor_1_2.dll, and obse_steam_loader.dll to your Oblivion directory. This is usually "C:\Program Files\Valve\Steam\SteamApps\common\oblivion".

2. Ensure you have enabled the Steam community in-game, or OBSE will fail to load. Go to Steam > Settings > In-Game and check the box marked "Enable Steam Community In-Game".

3. Launch Oblivion via Steam or by running Oblivion.exe. OBSE will automatically be run along with Oblivion when launched. To disable this, rename or move obse_steam_loader.dll. You do not need to use obse_loader.exe unless you are running the editor.

Yes that's what I meant and that's how I've been running Oblivion all the time but suddendly it stopped working. However it seems that I'm out of luck so I will propably keep playing skyrim until I get my pc formated it's propably just a compability issue with windows 7 thanks to all of you anyway. If someone of you has another solution I'd be more than happy to try.
